Pyrography and Gourd Crafting Tutorials
People called me crazy when I started my free online tutorials back in 2002 but my goal was to help people learn the fine art of pyrography in the comfort of their home. Friends of mine who also taught thought I was shooting myself in the foot by offering free tutorials on my site. One friend said, “why would anybody buy your book if they can get the information for free on your website”. My response was “I guess I am crazy but my goal is to reach out to as many people that I can to help them learn pyrography and my gourd & pyrography tutorials are doing just that”.
I started my free online tutorials back in 2002 when I created my website. My first tutorial was Pyrography 101 and like my first book, it was a compilation of hand-outs I gave out in my classes as a means of giving people something to take home and keep as a reference as they began their journey. I started getting requests from people who just couldn’t get to my classes so as my hand-outs grew so did my tutorials. The first tutorial has now expanded into more than a dozen separate tutorials including some step-by-step works in progress as well as tutorials for gourd artists.
My Pyrography 101 tutorials were the first free online tutorials available and while many other people have not only followed suit, some have even attempted copied the name as well as some of the content. They offered to people to provide them with an opportunity to learn in the comfort of their own home. While they are not as comprehensive as my books they do provide a lot of good basic information and a good starting place for people just getting into pyrography. My friends called me crazy for giving away all my information free on my website. Well, maybe I was but I figured I couldn’t clone myself and it was the best way to reach people who didn’t have access to instructors. So, call me crazy but it’s working!
I now have added tutorials on gourd & pyrography tutorials on my website dealing with gourds including a general gourd crafting tutorial which will help you learn how to use many of the gourd products on my website. I also have a gourd pyrography and safety tutorial which I think is one of the most important tutorials to read if you intend to do pyrography on gourds. While these are still evolving it’s a good place to find information on using many of the products I sell on the website and to learn safe burning techniques on gourds. Like my original Pyrography 101 tutorials my goal has always been to help people learn in the comfort of their home since not everyone has access to classes.
